The 4th Annual Salvation Army Empty Bowls fundraiser will be Saturday, Jan. 23, from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Sherman Ballroom, the corner of Rusk and Mulberry in downtown Sherman.

The public will vote for their favorite soups after sampling small portions of as many soups as they want. The ballots will be tabulated at the end and the winner, second and third places will be awarded plaques.
Participating restaurants are: Angela's Cafe, Carol's Red Apron, Cellarman's, Cracker Barrel, El Chico, Kathleen's Kitchen, Kelly's Rest., Michael's Family Rest., Pelicans Landing at Cedar Mills Marina, Red Lobster, and Tony's Main St. Cafe. There will also be soup from Logan's Roadhouse and Chili's.
Three hundred people were served in 2009 and we are hoping for at least 600 this year. The 2009 winner was Loose Wheel's Texas Tortilla Soup. Second place was Angela's Cafe Chicken Corn Chowder. And third place was Carol's Red Apron's Chicken Tortilla Soup.
Included in the $10 per person admission (make your check payable to The Salvation Army) is all the soup you can eat and:
Salad
Bread - Vitina's, Golden Chick and Aviano II
Desserts - Nancy's Fancies and Yahoo Cake
Tea and coffee - El Chico and The Boiler Room
Rockin' S Auction Services, Sara Jerome, will conduct a live auction for professional portraits, a gourmet home cooked meal, area restaurant gift certificates and movie passes to be sold in $100 increments. Also on the auction block will be a charcoal grill, a watch, homemade pies and other items. And there will be a silent auction.
Tickets are available at all American Bank of Texas locations, Angela's Cafe, Carol's Red Apron, The Funky Monkey, the Salvation Army Service Center and will be available at the door.
